Who is this course for?

This course is for experienced steriliser test engineers who have completed an accredited quartley testing course for porous load sterilisers and now need to carry out yearly testing and revalidation. It is the final course in the porous load steriliser pathway and suits engineers acting, or working towards acting, as a Competent Person (Decontamination)

Aims & Objectives

To enable delegates to carry out the yearly and revalidation testing procedures on porous load sterilisers in accordance with HTM 01-01.

By the end of the course you will be able to:
  • Carry out thermometric tests and air detection system function tests [confirm with trainer: specify “thermometric test for a small load” if that is the quarterly test covered
  • Explain the responsibilities of key personnel involved with sterilisation equipment
  • Assess the hazards associated with porous load sterilisers and their engineering services, including steam, compressed air and pressure systems
  • Reference and describe the yearly and revalidation test procedures in HTM 01-01 Part C
  • Carry out steam quality tests for non-condensable gases, superheat and dryness value
  • Calibrate and verify specified test equipment
  • Carry out yearly periodic tests, including full-load thermometric and load dryness tests
  • Interpret test results and produce a detailed revalidation report

FAQs

What is steriliser revalidation?

Revalidation is the yearly repeat of the validation tests that prove a steriliser still meets the performance established at commissioning. Under HTM 01-01, porous load sterilisers are revalidated annually and after any significant repair or modification.

What does steam quality testing involve?

Steam quality testing measures three properties of the steam supplied to the chamber: non-condensable gas content, superheat and dryness value. Poor steam quality causes sterilisation failures and wet loads, so it is a core part of yearly testing.

What is covered in the annual test report?

The report records each test carried out, the instrumentation used and its calibration status, the measured results and a pass or fail against the acceptance criteria. It is submitted to the User and reviewed by the AE(D).
